Explaintion of harakeke 02/10/2020

 Harakeke 

Last week we learnt how to weave a flower using flax. (Harakeke) Maori people use flax to weave mats, clothes, kete and decorations, but they also weave piupiu which are classified as grass skirts. They used it to clothes themselves.

Before we cut the flax, we must find the person who owns it and seek permission. We must have the right tools to cut flax. Before cutting and harvesting the flax you must do a karakia. After doing the karakia we can start cutting the flax. Cut your flax leaves on either side of the central leaves, in a downward angle, away from the plant. As long as it’s to the base of the leaf as conceivable. Water can’t run into the middle of the shrub otherwise it will rot and become unusable.

When you have finished cutting the leaves off, tie it up in groups of three, keeping the leaves from each bush together. If viable, it’s best to use leaves from the same bush in one piece of weaving before shredding, cutting away any dead or disposable leaves from the plant to boost growth and keep it healthy. After shredding the harakeke, you have to work out how many leaves you are going to cut. From there, you decide on the width of the weaving strips and how large the item will be when you weave. Items look better in strips with smaller widths, such as centimeters, and taller items can make great widths, up to 1 half centimeters wide.

Finally, you hold the shiny part of the leaf with the stem pointing downwards. Fold that leaf to the left strip back behind the strip next to it and then go over and under about eight times. Continue this pattern on the next side until it makes a triangle shape. Then ,roll it around til it makes a spiral. Lastly, cut the stem to create your flower.

My experience with weaving was exquisite but bold. The part that was difficult for me was having to repeat the step over and over again and learning to finish off. 

I would like to teach people to weave flowers with flax (PutiPuti) to give them a chance to learn how to weave in the future. I think people should weave because it will give you good coordination and good life skills. Give it a go, you may never know. Like me, you may grow to like it.

Technology

Today at tech we did something different .Tech was fun but today was weird because I was the only person who talked to my teacher.It was very difficult to do the different code but I finished doing it, sometimes people would ask for help from the teacher but he wouldn't listen because he would have to something else with someone.Robotics is fun, when doing games that were from my class and I were doing the codes that the tech teacher said to do.

Today at tech I learnt how to control the robot  on my chromebook. Our tech teacher taught us how to put  music into the mbot which was difficult.After putting music into the mbot we had to make the mbot move,it was hard to make it move and it didn't go the right way as I thought.Then we had to make the mbot blink red and blue but that was hard but I finished .

                                 Today at Tamaki college we did robotics with a new tech teacher named Mr. Whisken, Mr.W taught my tech class that we had to take away the other codes that other people use and use your codes and put in the mbot and put the code that we did. After replacing the codes we played a quiz called Mbot quiz,  and my friend had to do the tune coding together, the coding was very challenge. After doing the coding with my teammate. The when tech was over we had to clean the room and put our chairs away. I can't wait to go to technology again next week.

How I want to be remembered at Glen Innes school.

When I first entered Glen Innes School, I was this small little girl who was shy and scared. As I have grown up, I have gained some valuable traits that will have me remembered by many here at our little school.

Throughout my years at Glen Innes school, I have gained a reputation of being a good sportswoman, a good student, a kind person and a good role model. These are the traits that I would like to be remembered for when I leave Glen Innes School.

A good sportsperson has to learn all kinds of skills like, how to throw a ball, how to kick a ball, how to catch a ball and pass a ball. I have all these qualities which help me play the sports that I love such as netball, volleyball, softball and cricket. But, I am better at swimming and long distance running. At Glen Innes school, the Breakfast  club has a series of fun runs for the year 7 and 8’s. I have taken out the Mission Bay to St  Heliers girls section both years in a row. However, this year I was the first girl home from Glen Innes and Glen Taylor schools. I participated in the Queen of the Hill run last year with concussion. This year I was the only year 8 girl who qualified for all four swim strokes in our school swimming finals.

A good student must always listen to adults or teachers because that’s how you will learn. A good student must have manners, integrity and most of all participate more in class. Having these qualities have helped me grow and the adults within our school will remember me for having them.

I am the definition of a kind person because I help anyone that is sad or feeling down. I help my teacher by cleaning the floor and some tables in my class. I am a student leader and I often do playground duties on the junior side. I know the teachers will remember me for my services as I often like to do duty without hesitation. 

A good role model has to set a good example and always think positive. A role model is a person who sets good behaviour for others to follow. One perfect example of me showing off these qualities is at jump jam. I help some of my friends at jump jam with the moves to hype and get them all excited. I always look forward to Friday mornings and know I will be remembered by people for being the girl with all the dance moves.

Yes I am currently remembered as that shy little girl. But, I have gained confidence with many traits I have learnt along the way. It will be these traits  that will have me being remembered at our little school.

Today at technology we had to make our mbot move in a square . It was very difficult but I completed it . Robotics is very challenging but it is good fun. The coding part takes a lot time before you get what you want. I can't wait to see what we will be doing next week.

Amphibian 2019

Amphibians 
Today I have chosen to stand and give my speech about Amphibians. Why? Because it is an interesting topic and not many people take notice of them.
What is an amphibian? It is a cold blooded animal that lives on land and water. Not many living species can do that.
Why are Amphibians cold blooded.They are cold blooded because they can’t control their temperature.  Most Amphibians have thin moist skin The reason for this is because it helps them to breathe. 
Now this one fact is very weird because, did you know Amphibians eat their food whole. Ewww weird isn’t it. 
They have a complex life cycle including larva and adult stages.Why? This is because they go through life living in different stages and environments. They start life in the water as tadpoles and live their adult life on land.
I find Amphibians to be very, very interesting, and it’s because from the way their skin is built for them to breath out of and the fact that they’re cold blooded. Plus, the fact they swallow their food whole…. I mean it’s gross but interesting. I’m Misty August and thank you for listening to my speech today...

Drugs

Drugs ,what are they? What do they? To find out read on and those questions will be answered.

Essentially, drugs are a chemical substance taken into the body, other than food, water or oxygen, that changes the way the mind or body works. We know that drugs can help us but not all of them, you see drugs everywhere , like on the news, movies , music videos and many more. You hear on the news that people have died from it.

In addition, drugs change the process of the mind and body which causes affect when you become an adult, drugs can affect all aspects of our teenage years, our sports, our education, our dreams, and ambitions, our friendships, our relationship  with family, our self esteem, our physical development, our personality development, our ability to cope with stress and so much more, but some of us might be thinking “is it worth it?”.

Thirdly, Most  mature people would advise you  to delay your decision until you complete puberty, but you really need  to work that one or yourself, base your decision on and remember if you are not sure about something like someone you can trust before leaping in... It could make all the  difference for your future.

Fourthly, drugs fall into three broad categories because of the main effect on the brain! The first one is Stimulants which swing the balance up, Depressants which swing the balance down, Hallucinogenic which spins it up and down and all around, which makes it hard for you to see when you have taken drugs.

Now you know what happens when you take drugs into your system , but I can't stop you from making a bad decision in the future of humanitie, but you can, you can stop right now, and it want be as hard as it was when you started taking drugs.

Finishing our pillow today

Today we are finishing our pillow but if we don't we can't take it home to show our parents, so i try to finish it before the class swaps with another. So first I measured the material to 40 cm each side to made it accurately. Then we sowed the material together to make a squared shape, and then we stuffed the wool into the pillow to puff it up.

Today I've finished my pillow that I have been working on for 6 weeks, I planned, brainstormed, got the resources, than I made it . I thought it was going to be difficult to make the pillow but I was wrong it was easy for me because I had to stay on the line to make it perfect, I also had help from a friend of mine that sowed half of the pillow together but we left the conner to fill it with wool.
